Big news! A book I wrote, Sam not Samuel, will be published by Penny Candy Books in Fall 2019. It will be illustrated by the amazing Robert Liu-Trujillo.
Sam not Samuel is a children’s book about a transgender boy, his annoying sister, and their family’s journey through his transition. This book is inspired by my son Samson’s story and my own family’s growth and learning. It is especially rooted in my son Samson and daughter Magdalene’s fierce love for each other. This book is about hope. It is about how we can show up for one another, and we can love one another even when things seem confusing or overwhelming. It is about how things that are hard can get better. I hope this book is a good starting point for conversations about how we can see the dreams and spirit and laughter in ourselves and in everyone around us, and know that it is good to be who we are.
