the possibility project
Dani Gabriel, Project Director, produces works that explore possibility: the possibility that we can heal ourselves, the possibility that we can heal the world. She also teaches workshops for people from the margins to write, create art, and own their power.
For generations, people from the margins (people of color, lgbtq and gnc folks, poor people, unhoused people, people with disabilities, survivors of violence, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, and others) have been taught to believe that their voices don’t matter and that change is beyond reach. The possibility project asks: What could a shift in perspective make possible in this country? What would it mean if the victims and families in violent news stories wrote those stories ourselves? What could we see if the experiences of the people who have been discarded were projected? What could we do if our dreams for the future were disseminated through verse and image?
The mission of the possibility project is to produce writing and to lead art, performance, and learning opportunities that fight the idea that voices from the margins don’t matter. The project grows creative work, offers writing instruction, opens performance spaces, and creates leadership development opportunities in communities of survivors. Together we reach for transformation, our own and the world’s.
Fiscally sponsored by Nomadic Press, the possibility project sponsors workshops in Oakland, CA. Check out our upcoming events:
